Iran Seizes a US-Bound Oil Tanker in the Gulf of Oman: Latest Information on the Detention and Crew Members
Iran's naval troops hijacked an oil tanker, Advantage Sweet, headed for Texas in the Gulf of Oman on April 27, 2023. The ship was transporting Kuwaiti crude oil for the US energy company Chevron Corp. The US Navy has condemned the tanker's seizure at a time when animosity between Tehran and Washington are high. The tanker's manager, Advantage Tankers of Turkey, published a statement recognising the tanker's seizure. According to the operator, the tanker carried a crew of 24 Indians.The issue is being monitored by the US Fifth Fleet, which is entrusted with monitoring marine operations in the area. The tanker seizure is the newest in a string of commercial vessel seizures in Gulf waters over the last few years.
